Today in 1875 the premiere of George Bizet's opera Carmen took place at tje Opéra-Comique in Paris. Rather disappointly for Bizet, it was at the time, not considered to be a huge sucess. Just three months later Bizet dies of a heart attack and did see his work become one of the world's bestloved operas.
